Dr. Fernando Lozano Ruiz-Poveda

I am Dr. Fernando Lozano Ruiz-Poveda, head of the Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology Unit of the Quirón Salud Hospital in Ciudad Real.

What is the Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology Unit?

Our Unit is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of patients suffering from various heart diseases, especially ischemic and/or structural. To achieve this, we have medical and nursing personnel accredited at the highest level by both the Spanish Society of Cardiology and the European Society of Cardiology, as well as the technology necessary to offer optimal solutions to our patients. Our medical team in Ciudad Real is made up of Dr. Jorge Palazuelos, Dr. Felipe Hernández (both with extensive healthcare, teaching and research experience) and myself.

What is the activity of the Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology Unit?

In our Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology Unit we try to provide a comprehensive service to our patients, from consultation assessment and clinical follow-up to treatment through the application of interventional techniques at the highest level.

Among the various pathologies, those that affect coronary blood flow, ischemic heart disease, stand out. For her, we offer a current and effective treatment with cutting-edge techniques and materials that allow treatment in all types of scenarios. In addition to coronary heart disease, we are also dedicated to what is known as “structural heart disease”, both congenital diseases and degenerative and senile disorders.

What is the objective of the Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology Unit?

Our goal is to provide our patients with the best treatment possible, explaining their pathology, showing them the various options and giving them the best recommendations based on scientific evidence and Clinical Practice Guides. Our goal is to closely accompany our patients and their families in the monitoring and/or cure of their pathology, offering the best, most effective and safe treatments. We are interested in offering quality care, without forgetting a close and friendly treatment, while providing the ability to diagnose (and when appropriate treat) any problem in the cardiological sphere in an effective and precise way.

What is my professional, teaching and research experience?

I have developed my professional career at the Ramón y Cajal University Hospital from 1994 to 2005, and more recently, at the General University Hospital of Ciudad Real from 2005 to 2023, the last 12 years as Head of the Department of Hemodynamics (currently in leave) in a department with a high volume of coronary and structural interventions.

Graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the Complutense University in 1992, Doctor in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Alcalá de Henares (excellent thesis cum laude unanimously), Master in Management of Clinical Units from the Spanish Society of Cardiology and the University of Murcia and Expert in Digital Health from the J. Carlos I University.

Regarding Teaching, I have been Associate Professor and coordinator of the subject of Cardiovascular Pathologies at the Faculty of Medicine of Ciudad Real at the University of Castilla La Mancha since 2013 (currently on leave). I have participated in MIR postgraduate teaching at the Ramón y Cajal and Ciudad Real Hospitals since 1998 and trained 10 generations of new hemodynamicists, currently directing 2 doctoral theses.

As a Researcher, I have participated in more than 25 multicenter and international research projects as principal investigator, I have published more than 75 articles in national and international journals, made more than 400 presentations at conferences and presented 75 papers at national and international conferences.

All of this would have no value if we did not always try to develop Medicine by and for the patient:

"The doctor cannot cure well without keeping the patient in mind." (Seneca)
