What is Structural Heart Disease within the Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology Unit?
The Hemodynamics Unit is responsible for the diagnostic and therapeutic treatment of patients with coronary and valvular problems. It allows a comprehensive approach to patients suffering from angina pectoris or a myocardial infarction, through the implantation of devices called “stents” in the coronary arteries. The term structural heart disease has been widely used to refer to a group of non-coronary diseases that vary from defects in cardiac structures, such as the presence of defects in the interatrial or interventricular septum, to acquired valvular disease, the paradigm being implantation of percutaneous aortic prostheses or repair of mitral valve problems. To achieve this, we have medical and nursing personnel accredited at the highest level by both the Spanish Society of Cardiology and the European Society of Cardiology, as well as the technology necessary to offer optimal solutions to our patients.
What is the activity in Structural Heart Disease of the Hemodynamics Unit?
Our Hemodynamics Unit allows a precise evaluation of the pathology of each patient, in a comprehensive and complete manner, with all the necessary complementary tests, to decide the best possible treatment in each case and in each patient.
In our Unit, thanks to its scientific and technical equipment, we have extensive experience in performing percutaneous mitral valvuloplasty procedures, aortic valvuloplasty, closure of atrial or ventricular septal defect, closure of patent ductus arteriosus, closure of patent foramen ovale, implantation of aortic prosthesis percutaneous surgery (TAVI), implantation of devices for the treatment of mitral insufficiency (MitraClip), percutaneous closure of the left atrial appendage in non-valvular atrial fibrillation and treatment of coronary or peripheral fistulas, among other techniques.
Although the technical knowledge to carry out these techniques, with the best professionals and material possible for this purpose, with efficiency and safety, is essential, the specific knowledge of the pathology, of the different therapeutic options for the patient, with its different risks and benefits, which offer a global vision to solve your heart problem.
What is the objective of the UICAR Hemodynamics Unit?
Our objective is to provide all the knowledge, skills and technical tools possible for the specific treatment of valve, structural or congenital problems of our patients, through the best treatment and treatment possible, in a close, honest and clear way, offering them the different options available, the current scientific evidence on their pathology and the best professionals to provide a solution to their problem. Our goal is to offer the best, most effective and safe treatments, and to accompany our patients in the monitoring and/or cure of their pathology.
