Optical coherence tomography (OCT)

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is an imaging technique based on light rays, where the reflection of light caused by the different structures surrounding the intracoronary catheter is analyzed.

When the light beam encounters tissues with different refractive indices, a portion of the light is reflected and detected by the OCT catheter sensor. The current main indications for OCT in clinical practice are optimization of stent implantation, evaluation of stent failure, and evaluation of acute coronary syndromes.
