The cardiologist from the Comprehensive Cardiology Unit, together with Dr. Laura Galian Gay, led the meeting held at the Quirónsalud Barcelona Hospital, which brought together specialists to analyze the application of the latest advances in cardiovascular imaging to clinical practice.

A course on the clinical application of cardiac imaging
Dr. Alejandra Carbonell , cardiologist at the Comprehensive Cardiology Unit of the La Luz University Hospital, co-directed, along with Dr. Laura Galian Gay, the II Clinical Application Course of New Developments in Cardiac Imaging , held on October 1st at the Quirónsalud Barcelona Hospital.
The course brought together specialists from different hospitals to share knowledge and experiences on the advances in cardiovascular imaging techniques and, especially, on their application in routine clinical practice. The objective was to analyze how these tools can contribute to improving diagnosis , patient assessment, and therapeutic decision-making in various cardiovascular diseases.
The event featured a distinguished representation of professionals from the Comprehensive Cardiology Unit . Dr. Roberto Martín-Reyes, director of UICAR , participated in the introduction and welcome address for the course.
Cardiac imaging applied to decision making
In addition to her role as course director, Dr. Alejandra Carbonell participated as a speaker, addressing functional ventricular and atrial mitral regurgitation , focusing on the new severity criteria and the importance of proper patient selection. She also moderated one of the sessions centered on valvular heart disease and aortic disorders.
For her part, Dr. Angélica Romero Daza, head of the Advanced Cardiac Imaging Unit of the Comprehensive Cardiology Unit , focused her presentation on myocardial inflammation and myocarditis , analyzing what multimodal imaging currently contributes to the study of these pathologies and how the combination of different techniques allows progress in their characterization and clinical assessment.
Dr. Teresa Alvarado Casas, head of the Heart Failure Unit at the Comprehensive Cardiology Unit , addressed one of the fundamental aspects in the follow-up of these patients: the assessment of congestion . During her presentation, she elaborated on the integration of tools such as lung ultrasound, VExUS, and venous parameters to obtain a more complete evaluation of the patient's condition and help guide their clinical management.
Advances in cardiac imaging are transforming cardiology practice.
The meeting allowed specialists from different centers to share their experiences and analyze the growing role of cardiac imaging in areas such as valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy, ischemic heart disease, cardio-oncology, cardiovascular prevention, and heart failure.
Techniques such as echocardiography, magnetic resonance imaging, and cardiac CT , along with the development of multimodal imaging strategies, allow for increasingly precise information about the structure and function of the heart. These advances are helping to better characterize numerous pathologies and provide more information to tailor diagnostic and therapeutic decisions to the characteristics of each patient.
During the course, areas of growing interest were also addressed, such as the early detection of cardiotoxicity, the assessment of cardiovascular risk, and the incorporation of artificial intelligence into cardiac imaging , reflecting the rapid evolution that this field of Cardiology is experiencing.
