The Comprehensive Cardiology Unit, with Dr. Roberto Martín Reyes as head of department, has organized the 1st Course on Clinical Application of New Developments in Cardiac Imaging , a training day aimed at clinical cardiologists, cardiac imaging specialists and internists.
The meeting, led by Dr. Alejandra Carbonell San Román , head of the Valvular Heart Disease Unit at UICAR, and Dr. Laura Galian Gay , cardiologist at Hospital Quirónsalud Barcelona and Hospital Universitari Vall d'Hebron, aimed to offer a practical approach to the role of cardiac imaging in the evaluation of valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy and in cardiovascular prevention strategies.
The day was structured into three thematic blocks that combined short presentations, clinical cases and open debates:
Valvular Heart Disease and the Aorta : Topics covered included the management of atypical aortic stenosis (Dr. Alejandra Carbonell), aortic valve repair (Dr. Alberto Forteza, Head of the Cardiac Surgery Unit at UICAR), functional mitral regurgitation (Dr. Cecilia Corros), new prognostic markers in aortic regurgitation (Dr. Laura Galian), and advances in the percutaneous treatment of tricuspid regurgitation (Dr. Alberto de Agustín). In addition, updates to the aortic guidelines and the ESC 2025 guidelines were presented (Dr. Gisela Teixidó and Dr. Ariana González).
Cardiomyopathies and Ischemic Heart Disease : It included an update on myocardial deformation techniques (Dr. José Luis Moya), the role of imaging in the study of MINOCA (Dr. Angélica Romero, head of the Cardiac Imaging Unit of UICAR), and the current situation of cardiac amyloidosis (Dr. David Cordero).
Cardio-oncology, Prevention and Heart Failure : The role of imaging in cardio-oncology was addressed (Dr. Carmen Jiménez López-Guarch), cardiac imaging in cardiovascular prevention (Dr. Juan Manuel Monteagudo), the contributions of CT Photon Counting (Dr. Hug Cuéllar), the usefulness of imaging in heart failure (Dr. Elena Díaz) and the application of the Vexus technique in cardiorenal syndrome (Dr. Teresa Alvarado, head of the Heart Failure Unit at UICAR)
Exchange of knowledge and practical vision
The course stood out for its focus on daily clinical practice, fostering the exchange of knowledge between professionals from centers such as the Ramón y Cajal Hospital, 12 de Octubre Hospital, La Paz Hospital, San Carlos Clinical Hospital, Vall d'Hebron and Quirónsalud , among others.
Free registration allowed the attendance of numerous professionals who, throughout the day, were able to update their knowledge in a dynamic environment focused on the real challenges of current clinical cardiology.
With this first edition, the Comprehensive Cardiology Unit reinforces its role as a benchmark in continuing medical education and in the dissemination of the latest innovations in cardiac imaging.
