CARDIAC SURGERY SERVICE
Head of Department: Dr. Alberto Forteza Gil
The Cardiac Surgery Service deals with the surgical treatment of any pathology that affects the heart and/or the large vessels that originate from it.
Our mission is to offer the highest level of technical care to patients who require surgical and/or endovascular treatment for their cardiovascular pathology. Being up to date with the latest medical and technological advances in order to offer them responsibly, safely and efficiently is one of our objectives. Furthermore, in an advanced Cardiac Surgery Service, continuous training and cooperation with other professionals from our centre and from other hospitals is essential to achieve excellence. To this end, we have a programme of our own multidisciplinary training sessions, encompassing all the cardiology units of our group, as well as collaborative programmes with other international centres.

We are currently one of the most active teams in the country in private practice, with more than 450 major cardiac interventions per year. With the exception of pediatric cardiac surgery and heart transplants, our portfolio of services covers all pathologies and techniques. of the specialty:
valve surgery
- Aortic valve repair/replacement with conventional and minimally invasive techniques.
- Mitral valve repair/replacement with conventional and minimally invasive techniques.
- Tricuspid valve repair/replacement with conventional and minimally invasive techniques.
- Polyvalvular surgery. Complex surgery for infective endocarditis
- Transcatheter mitral, aortic or tricuspid prosthesis implantation (without extracorporeal circulation).
coronary surgery
- Myocardial revascularization with and without extracorporeal circulation.
- Minimally invasive off-pump myocardial revascularization.
Aorta and large vessel surgery (Aorta Unit and Marfan Unit)
- Aneurysms of any segment of the aorta.
- Aortic root aneurysm with aortic valve replacement or preservation.
- Acute and chronic aortic dissection.
Ventricular surgery
- Ventricular remodeling surgery with conventional techniques
Surgery for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
Arrhythmia surgery.
Resection of cardiac tumors.
Pathology of the pericardium.
Implementation of short- and long-term circulatory assistance.
Implantation and removal of pacemakers and defibrillators.
We are pioneers in our country in the treatment of aortic pathology with valve repair techniques, having one of the largest series in the world in these techniques with excellent results.
It consists of replacing the root of the aorta with a pulmonary autograft. In young patients with non-repairable aortic valve disease, it is currently one of the treatments of choice, since it allows them to carry out completely normal physical activity, without the need for anticoagulant medication. In addition, the durability of the pulmonary autograft is greater than that achieved with biological prostheses.
By minimally invasive techniques: allows the mitral valve to be repaired without opening the sternum.
We have one of the largest experiences in the country with extended septal myectomy, which allows complete release of the left ventricular outflow tract.
We are one of the most experienced groups in the country with this technique, which allows revascularization of the heart without having to stop it or use extracorporeal circulation.
