UICAR, accredited center for Training in Interventional Cardiology

The Accreditation Committee of the Spanish Society of Cardiology, in its last meeting, has supported the request for Unit Accreditation for Training in Interventional Cardiology to the Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology Unit of the La Luz Hospital in Madrid.

The overall scientific and technical profile of the unit and its head, Dr. Jorge Palazuelos, exceeds the criteria established by the Spanish Society of Cardiology. These criteria also include the hospital's adequate infrastructure, the volume and complexity of procedures performed (including techniques such as rotational atherectomy , intracoronary lithotripsy, transcatheter valve replacement, etc.), cardiac surgeries, and a high level of scientific activity. The medical team comprises Drs. Roberto Martín Reyes, Daniele Gemma, John Frank Sliwinski, Ana Casado, Ricardo Mori, Javier Martín Moreiras, José Antonio Fernández, Guillermo Galeote, and Alfonso Jurado.

Another merit achieved with accreditation is the existence of at least one accredited and experienced interventional cardiologist who supervises the training of future interventionists during the training period.

The La Luz Hospital, the Guipúzcoa Policlínic and the Jiménez Díaz Foundation University Hospital, of the Quirónsalud Group, are the only private centers nationwide that have this recognition.
