The Cardiology Department at Hospital La Luz has launched this system where the patient's blood pressure, heart rate, weight, and analytical variables are remotely monitored and evaluated.

Cardiovascular disease represents the leading cause of death in Western countries, increasingly followed more closely by oncological pathology. Without a doubt, a large part of the advances that have decisively influenced the improvement of long-term survival and quality have been the prevention and early detection of the disease. The main factors that cause this condition are genetics, an inadequate diet, being overweight, lack of physical activity, cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, tobacco consumption and even stress. As a consequence of these alterations, damage occurs to the blood vessels, often irreversible.

Preventive measures aimed at making the patient aware of their risk of suffering a cardiovascular event are essential and are aligned with the strategy of Hospital La Luz, which consists of empowering the patient in the control of their health.

For all these reasons, a few months ago the Clinical and Interventional Cardiology Service of the hospital center, directed by Dr. Roberto Martín Reyes, has started a project in which Tele-Monitoring of the blood pressure of its patients is carried out, where it is controlled. and remotely evaluates blood pressure, heart rate, weight and analytical variables without the need for the patient to go to the hospital in person.

Using the figures from each blood pressure measurement that the patient enters in the Quironsalud Patient Portal, an alarm system is generated that, depending on the results, promotes specific actions.

The alarms are designed in such a way that they simulate a traffic light. Thus, values that are considered within normality will activate a green traffic light and abnormal values, depending on the deviation or alteration, will activate an amber or red traffic light, which will trigger a series of actions and recommendations for the patient, ranging from advise urgent consultation at a hospital until medication adjustments are made by a doctor online.

In this way, the patient, who can access it from anywhere in Spain, is assured that all the data entered into the patient portal is evaluated and controlled by the Cardiology Service.

Without a doubt, it is a novel tool with optimal results, which aims to help the patient control their blood pressure, trying to avoid recurring consultations and visits to the emergency room as a result of poor control of their parameters.

Recently, Dr. Roberto Martín Reyes received from the Councilor of the Community of Madrid, Enrique Ruíz Escudero, the award for Best Telemedicine Project awarded by the Mediforum Group, for this initiative that contributes to improving the health and lives of people. .
