I am Dr. Álvaro Lozano, cardiologist at the UICAR Arrhythmias and Electrophysiology Unit.
What is my activity in the Arrhythmias and Electrophysiology Unit?
As a specialist in Arrhythmias, my activity has two facets, one interventional, developed in the Electrophysiology Room, and another clinical one around the Arrhythmia Consultation.
From an interventional point of view, our centers have a fully equipped Electrophysiology Room for carrying out invasive procedures aimed at the treatment of certain arrhythmias. These include the implantation of cardiac stimulation systems (pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronization devices), diagnostic electrophysiological studies, conventional radiofrequency ablations of various arrhythmias (accessory pathways, common flutter, intranodal tachycardia), ablation procedures with use of navigators (in my case with special interest in ventricular arrhythmias) and cryoablation of pulmonary veins for the treatment of atrial fibrillation.
In the clinical aspect that represents the Arrhythmia Consultation, we try to offer our patients the best possible treatment for their pathology, always based on scientific evidence and the recommendations of the Clinical Guides, putting special effort into providing clear and understandable information that Help them understand what their pathology consists of, their prognoses, follow-up plan and what the different treatment options are. Furthermore, within the framework of the Arrhythmia Consultation, both in-person and remote monitoring of cardiac stimulation devices (pacemakers, resynchronizers and defibrillators) is carried out, as well as subcutaneous Holter, without forgetting the interpretation of conventional rhythm Holter, which in Our centers, and as an example of the quality service that we try to provide to our patients, are always interpreted by one of the specialists from the Arrhythmia Unit.
Training and experience.
Trained as a specialist in Electrophysiology and Cardiac Stimulation at the 12 de Octubre Hospital, I am accredited by the European Arrhythmia Society (EHRA).
