The Comprehensive Cardiology Unit promotes advanced practical training in TAVI led by Dr. Jorge Palazuelos

The Comprehensive Cardiology Unit participated in a distinguished training experience in interventional cardiology with the “Meril TAVI Hands-On Experience – Myval THV Series ” program, held on June 2nd and 3rd, 2026 in Madrid and led by Dr. Jorge Palazuelos , Head of the Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology Unit at the Comprehensive Cardiology Unit. This initiative is also part of the Cardiovascular Innovation Chair , jointly promoted by the Comprehensive Cardiology Unit and the Francisco de Vitoria University to lead research in cardiac health, directed by Dr. Roberto Martín-Reyes , Chair Director and Head of Department at the Comprehensive Cardiology Unit.

This practical and immersive program brought together specialists with the aim of sharing knowledge, clinical experience and best practices in the approach to transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) , one of the most advanced techniques in the treatment of aortic stenosis.

The training was structured over two complementary days. On the first day , participants attended a theoretical session held at Meril Academy Madrid , where key concepts, indications, and implementation strategies were reviewed. The activity then continued with a practical session in an animal facility at the Francisco de Vitoria University , allowing attendees to develop technical skills in a controlled and highly specialized environment.

The second day focused on real-world clinical application, featuring a live TAVI case session at the La Luz University Hospital in Madrid , fostering multidisciplinary discussion and detailed analysis of actual procedures. The day concluded with a professional networking session and the closing of the program.

The initiative stood out for its eminently practical approach, combining hands-on training in a porcine model, live cases, clinical discussion and professional networking , consolidating itself as a high-value experience for the updating and improvement of specialists in interventional cardiology.

The leadership of Dr. Jorge Palazuelos and the active participation of the Comprehensive Cardiology Unit reinforced the service's commitment to excellence in care, technological innovation, and continuing education in the cardiovascular field. This commitment is further strengthened through the Chair of Cardiovascular Innovation , developed in conjunction with the Francisco de Vitoria University and directed by Dr. Roberto Martín-Reyes , a strategic initiative aimed at promoting research, teaching, and innovation in cardiac health.
