The Comprehensive Cardiology Unit (UICAR) continues to consolidate its position as a leader in cardiovascular care with the launch of its new Cardiac Amyloidosis Unit , dedicated to the diagnosis , treatment and follow-up of this rare but potentially serious disease.
Cardiac amyloidosis is a progressive disease caused by the deposition of abnormal proteins (amyloid fibrils) in the heart, which can lead to heart failure, atrial fibrillation , or valvular abnormalities. Its complexity and silent progression require an early, precise, and multidisciplinary approach.
Under the coordination of Dr. María del Mar Pérez Gil and the heart failure specialist nurse, Sara García Bravo , the UICAR team offers comprehensive patient-centered care, supported by a group of highly qualified professionals.
Discovery precision and cutting-edge therapies
The unit focuses on early and accurate diagnosis , using advanced technology such as:
– 3D echocardiography with myocardial strain technique
– Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging
– Cardiac CT scan
– Specific genetic studies
Regarding treatment, innovative therapies are being applied that have proven to slow the progression of the disease, such as the tetramer stabilizer , approved by the National Health System (NHS), and participation in phase 3 clinical trials with genetic silencers.
The unit collaborates closely with other specialties such as Neurology, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, and Hematology , ensuring a comprehensive and coordinated approach to the disease. Furthermore, UICAR promotes clinical research aimed at improving both treatments and diagnostic methods.
With this new unit, UICAR reinforces its commitment to innovation, quality care and continuous support for patients and their families, consolidating itself as a center of reference in the management of complex cardiovascular diseases.
