First live case from the La Luz University Hospital of plate modification with Shockware
Last Thursday and Friday, January 26th and 27th, the 3rd Course on Plaque Modification in Complex Coronary Interventions (COMPLAC 3) was held at the Eurobuilding Hotel in Madrid. The course focused on the treatment of calcified and/or complex plaques. Its aim was to deepen participants' understanding of the most important adjunctive techniques for managing complex lesions during percutaneous coronary intervention.
It has been organized by the head of the Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology Unit of the La Luz University Hospital , Dr. Jorge Palazuelos, and by the interventional cardiologists Helena Tizón, from the Hospital del Mar in Barcelona, Guillermo Bastos, Hospital Álvaro Cunqueiro in Vigo, Estefanía Fernández, Hospital Santa Creu i Sant Pau and by Javier Martín, specialist in Structural Heart Disease at the La Luz University Hospital.
In this third edition, workshops have been held that have consisted of brief theoretical introductions and later interactive practical demonstrations for the participants, showing the operation and management of the different therapies and procedures.
This was one of the clinical cases of the Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology unit of the La Luz University Hospital, made up of doctors Jorge Palazuelos, Daniele Gemma and their team, who showed live from the hospital center via streaming, the procedures on modification of the plaque of the calcified lesion with Shockware, evaluated with intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), which offers higher resolution images and allows evaluation of the severity of complex lesions.
According to Dr. Jorge Palazuelos, it is important, with this course, to update your knowledge and use of the different techniques and materials developed for Complex Coronary Interventionism (calcification, bifurcations, coronary trunk lesion, small vessels, etc.). “New devices and techniques have been developed that facilitate the assessment, approach and treatment of these complex injuries for which there was no treatment a few years ago,” he stressed.
