The UICAR has a Heart Failure Unit for the management of these patients
More than 50 Primary Care specialists, cardiologists, internists, hospital emergency doctors and health personnel from different health centers in the Community of Madrid, attended this Thursday the first heart failure day organized by the Clinical and Interventional Cardiology service of the La Luz Hospital in Madrid.

Its manager, Dr. Roberto Martín Reyes, has defined the scope of this problem as the epidemic of the 50st century. The cardiologist has explained what the organization of care for heart failure (HF) consists of and the complexity of managing this pathology. He stated that it is one of the most common pathologies in his specialty and one of those associated with higher mortality (5% at XNUMX years).
On the other hand, he reassured attendees by pointing out that integrated therapeutic options managed from a specialized HF unit provide better management of resources and optimal patient outcomes. “In the future, new remote monitoring and assistance devices integrated into heart failure units will undoubtedly provide favorable results in reducing mortality and, above all, hospital admissions,” he stressed.
The person in charge of the Heart Failure Unit of the Cardiology service of the Hospital la Luz, Dr. Teresa Alvarado, has described the operation of the hospital's HF unit and addressed the role of new drugs in the management of heart failure with fraction of preserved and/or reduced injection. The doctor presented the clinical practical guidelines for the use of combined treatment with the “fantastic 4 drugs”, an ARNI, a beta blocker, an MRA and an iSGLT2 inhibitor, which in patients without contraindications obtain greater benefit.
Dr. Abraham López, Head of the Non-invasive Cardiology Unit at La Luz Hospital, supported the role of cardiac rehabilitation stating that it reduces cardiovascular mortality by 22%, fatal heart attacks by 25% and sudden death per year by 37%. . International recommendations promote the application of low or moderate intensity physical exercise. For this reason, the expert from La Luz Hospital insisted on the importance of moderate continuous training programs, their efficiency, safety and tolerance in patients with HF.
The day ended with the recommendation of inspiratory muscle training as it is beneficial to improve the strength of the respiratory muscles and reduce dyspnea in patients with stable heart failure.
