Intracoronary ultrasound (IVUS)

Intravascular ultrasound consists of an intracoronary catheter with miniaturized ultrasound transducers, connected to a console that reconstructs images of the interior of the coronary arteries.

It allows coronary disease to be characterized in more detail and depth. Its role is key in better describing the characteristics of the plaques and the immediate results of stent implantation. The use of IVUS to guide percutaneous revascularization is associated with better clinical results in intervention with drug-eluting stents, especially in complex lesions, such as long lesions, total occlusions, common trunk lesions, or bifurcations.
