Placement of mitral clips (MITRA-CLIP)

This is a therapeutic procedure for patients who have severe mitral insufficiency and high surgical risk.

It consists of placing small clamps called “clips” bringing both leaflets of the mitral valve closer together to reduce the degree of valve insufficiency. To do this, under deep sedation, the femoral vein is canalized and through a small perforation on the interatrial septum we access the left atrium. With the help of transesophageal echocardiography and a sophisticated system that carries and releases the clip, the device is placed on the free edge of both valve leaflets, joining them. Multiple clips can be placed in the same procedure.
