The Spanish Association for Standardization , UNE, has organized a meeting to present a new standard that establishes the minimum requirements for telehealth services in public, private, or mixed-management entities. The goal is to guarantee that patients receive a high-quality service. The UNE 179011 standard, Healthcare Services - Telehealth, addresses various aspects, such as telehealth modalities, the healthcare services that can be offered, the associated technology, the care process, and the evaluation of service quality.
The UNE Committee on Quality and Safety in Health Care Centers (CTN-UNE 179) formed a working group with representatives of various interested parties to agree on the requirements demanded of teleconsultation providers. The objective was to guarantee the quality and security of communications, information and documentation used in this service. The parties involved include the Ministry of Health, the Health Departments of the 17 Autonomous Communities, private teleconsultation providers, technology companies, developers of teleconsultation applications and programs, professional associations in the health field, as well as associations and related public and private entities. with personal autonomy and people with disabilities.
The use of teleconsultation has increased due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This modality has been used mainly to reduce the risk of disease transmission and to care for a greater number of patients. Both healthcare professionals and patients have adopted it as an increasingly used tool to facilitate access to medical care, reduce waiting times and avoid unnecessary travel. However, it is important to note that not all health consultations can be carried out remotely. AND
Representatives from UNE, the Ministry of Health, the General Council of Official Medical Associations, Tunstall Ibérica, Quirónsalud and the Sant Joan d'Alacant University Hospital participated in the event to present the standard.
