Interventional cardiologist Felipe Hernández participates in the Epic Media Podcast

Under the title Patent Foramen Ovale and Migraine: Casual or Causal Relationship?, UICAR interventional cardiologist Felipe Hernández recently participated in the Epic Media Podcast (Education in Interventional Procedures in Cardiology) to talk about the percutaneous closure of the Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) with an unusual indication such as migraine.

Various studies have described a relationship between the presence of migraines and the existence of a PFO, especially migraine with aura. PFO is present in 20-25% of the adult population, however, its prevalence is 30-50% in patients who have migraine with aura. The benefit of percutaneous closure of the PFO to prevent cryptogenic stroke is clearly demonstrated in several studies. 34% of these patients suffered from migraine and PFO closure reduced the days with migraine in 81% of patients.

Dr. Hernández has extensive experience in new, minimally invasive techniques that provide solutions for serious illnesses. In the field of Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology, he is certified by the Spanish Society of Cardiology , and his expertise includes percutaneous stent placement (minimally invasive) for complex coronary artery disease and various congenital and structural heart defects (patent foramen ovale, atrial septal defect, left atrial appendage, TAVI).

The goal of EPIC is to promote excellence in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases using percutaneous transcatheter techniques in order to obtain the greatest benefit on the cardiovascular health of patients.
