Several specialists from the Comprehensive Cardiology Unit (UICAR) actively participated in the prestigious 7th Monographic Course on Sports Cardiology , organized by the Spanish Society of Cardiology at the Casa del Corazón (House of the Heart). The event brought together national experts in the field and was a key forum for discussing the latest scientific and clinical advances in the evaluation and monitoring of athletes with cardiology conditions.
UICAR doctors contributed with highly specialized presentations:
- El Dr. Roberto Martín Reyes presented an interesting review on the cardiovascular physiology of diving, focusing on the frequent lack of awareness among cardiologists and the clinical implications for safe practice.
- El Dr. Ángel Miracle Blanco He spoke about early repolarization in athletes, addressing whether this electrocardiographic finding is always benign or may hide pathological risk.
- El Dr. Álvaro Lozano Rosado analyzed the role of the cardiac tomography in the sports population, discussing its real usefulness and indication criteria.
- La Dr. Laura Espinosa Pinzón, with activity in both the Quirón Sur Hospital in Alcorcón and the La Luz University Hospital, gave a presentation focused on the physician-athlete communication, with keys for cardiologists who are also athletes to know how to properly guide their patients in sports practice.
In addition, Table 3 , entitled “Update on daily topics in sports cardiology”, was moderated by Dr. Alejandro Berenguel Senén , and included the participation of two professionals from UICAR-Toledo:
- El Dr. Alejandro Gadella Fernández defended the incorporation of the Ergospirometry in pre-participation screening of the athlete, highlighting his value diagnosis and forecast.
- At that same table, the issue was addressed Use of echocardiogram in pre-competitive screening, a presentation that complemented the comprehensive approach to functional assessment of the athlete.
A course with high-level training objectives
The course focused on the analysis of new technologies in cardiovascular assessment of athletes, a review of updated guidelines, the study of arrhythmias and physiological adaptations to exercise, and a discussion of specific sports practices such as diving for patients at risk of heart disease.
The outstanding intervention of the UICAR doctors reinforces their commitment to clinical excellence and continuing education in a field as dynamic as sports cardiology.
