Cardioren Meeting, held on February 4 and 5 at the Toledo Congress Palace, is a multidisciplinary meeting in which cardiologists, nephrologists, endocrinologists and internists share knowledge related to the joint involvement of the heart and kidney in various pathologies, especially in diabetes mellitus and heart failure.
At the panel moderated by Dr. Mario Baquero of UICAR , head of the cardiology department at Quironsalud Toledo Hospital , the discussion focused on deprescribing. This refers to reducing the dosage or even discontinuing medications that, although prescribed under the correct indication, may pose more risk than benefit as the disease progresses, or where a more effective or safer therapeutic alternative exists for the same conditions.
He was accompanied by two experts. Firstly, with Dr Juan José Gorgojo, endocrinologist at the Fundación de Alcorcón University Hospital, with whom he discussed the de-prescription of insulin and antidiabetic drugs without demonstrated cardiovascular benefit in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Dr Mercedes Rivas, cardiologist expert in advanced heart failure at the Puerta de Hierro Hospital in Madrid, addressed the deprescription of diuretics and other drugs in patients with chronic heart failure.
