Dr. Roberto Martín Reyes participates in the DKV Observatory "Extreme Heat, Health at Risk"

Dr. Roberto Martín Reyes , a specialist from the Comprehensive Cardiology Unit , participated yesterday in the DKV Health and Environment Observatory , held at the German Chamber of Commerce for Spain , a leading forum that brought together experts from different fields to analyze the impact of extreme heat on the health of the population.

Under the title "Extreme Heat, Health at Risk ," the meeting highlighted that high temperatures have ceased to be merely a meteorological phenomenon and have become one of the main public health challenges. In Spain, extreme heat has caused more than 27.500 deaths in the last decade , a figure that exceeds the number of fatalities recorded from traffic accidents during the same period.

During the day it was highlighted that heat acts as a major trigger for cardiovascular diseases, increasing the risk of myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure and other decompensations , especially in older people, patients with cardiovascular pathologies and other vulnerable groups.

The participation of Dr. Roberto Martín Reyes provided a clinical perspective from cardiology on the effects of heat waves on the cardiovascular system and the need to strengthen both prevention and health education to minimize their consequences.

From the Comprehensive Cardiology Unit, we remind you that during periods of high temperatures, it is essential to maintain adequate hydration, avoid sun exposure during peak hours, correctly follow prescribed treatments, and consult with a specialist if symptoms such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, dizziness, or loss of consciousness appear.

The presence of Dr. Roberto Martín Reyes at this observatory reaffirms the commitment of the Comprehensive Cardiology Unit to scientific dissemination, the promotion of healthy habits, and participation in initiatives that contribute to improving the prevention of cardiovascular diseases in a context marked by the effects of climate change.
